Religious services

The Wellington Jewish Community Centre is home to an acitve traditional orthodox congregation and Wellington's only orthodox synagogue. We hold regular services for weekdays, Shabbat, and chagim and also caters for all life cycle events from bris milah, to bar/bat mitzvah, to weddings, and burial

The congregation is affiliated with the United Hebrew Congregations of the British Commonwealth but has a diverse membership including Ashkenazim, Sephardim, and Mizrachim.

Synagogue services

Regular orthodox services are held in the Community Centre's synagogue or the neighboring Van Staveren Room. 

In addition to services for chagim, the following services are regularly held every week:

  • Monday: morning minyan.
  • Friday: Kabbalat Shabbat.
  • Saturday: Shabbat shacharit.

See our calendar for an indication of services. However, service times do vary and we recommend visitors contact the office for upcoming service times before their visit.

Life cycle events

The Centre and our Rabbi can assist with all life cycle events, including:

  • Bris milah.
  • Bar/bat mitzvah.
  • Weddings.
  • Funerals.
For assistance with a bris milah, a bar/bat mitzvah, or a wedding, contact contact the Rabbi.

For burial services please contact the Wellington Chevra Kadisha via the Centre office in the first instance.


The Community Centre also maintains a mikveh. The mikveh is available for free for members or by donation for non-members. Contact the office to book the mikveh.
